The purple butterfly is often associated with lupus because it is a common sign for lupus patient to have a butterfly shaped rash over their cheeks and nose, often after exposure to sunlight. Besides, the purple butterfly also symbolizes hope and rebirth, the inner strength and grace needed to achieve transformation.
